What is a standard billing page?
Under the statutory remuneration rules, one translation page contains 1,125 characters, including spaces justified by the text. A part-page is charged as a full page. The calculation is based on the length of the translation, which may differ from the source because of descriptions of stamps, handwritten additions and document layout.
For example, a translation containing 1,500 characters counts as two pages when this unit is used. This does not mean that a scan with a similar number of recognised characters will produce exactly the same final translation length. For several documents, it is also necessary to agree how the scope of each service will be described and charged.
Private assignments and statutory remuneration
Under Article 16 of the Polish Sworn Translators Act, the fee for a private assignment is agreed by contract. A separate regulation sets rates for work requested by courts, prosecutors, the Police and public administration authorities. The statutory table does not automatically serve as a price list for all privately commissioned services.
The basic statutory rates per page are PLN 47.49 from Ukrainian into Polish and PLN 67.82 from Polish into Ukrainian, before VAT where applicable. The regulation also addresses urgent assignments, specialist or difficult-to-read text and interpreting. A surcharge should not be applied merely because a document relates to legal proceedings.
What to include in your enquiry
Provide every page and attachment, and state the translation direction, intended use, preferred deadline and number of copies required. Identify handwritten entries, faint stamps and passages needing particular attention. For interpreting, specify the location, start time and expected duration of the interpreter’s attendance.
The order confirmation should state the scope, pricing basis, deadline and delivery format. It should also clarify whether VAT is included or the service is exempt. VAT exemption is not the same as a zero rate, and tax should not be added solely on the basis of a general online table.
Using the calculator and OCR
The calculator helps estimate length and compare options. Check the recognised text, particularly names, numbers and handwritten passages. Treat a result based on source material as an estimate. Final terms require review of the document and confirmation of the assignment; OCR alone does not replace that assessment.
